SALUTATIO AT THE HOUSE OF PANSA

Atrium

As you pass into the atrium, you can see the monumental grandeur of this noble residence. Each door stands almost as tall as two grown men, and the ceiling is more than twice as tall as that! The House of Pansa was a multistory building, with apartments and shops of various types around the periphery of the main residence. The atrium's floor is decorated with a ruddy stone material, with white inlay in tesselating spirals. In the early hours of the morning, the atrium is partially lit by sunlight passing through the rectangular hole in the roof, the compluvium, which was used to collect rainwater in the room's central basic, the impluvium.
