SALUTATIO AT THE HOUSE OF PANSA |
This is the vestibulum (entryway) of the virtual House of Pansa. As you first walk into the house, you can see straight through it, since Roman architects favored very axial designs. In the foreground lies a mosaic bearing the warning, "CAVE CANEM ("Beware of the Dog") with an impressive picture to further convey the idea. The house's colorful "First Style" stucco decorative scheme is already visible in the shadows of the entryway. In the background is the main atrium room, and behind it is the tablinum, where the paterfamilias (patron) sits with his slaves, awaiting his daily entourage of clients. As an aspiring young politician from a prominent family (and therefore a relatively high-ranking client), you are one of the first visitors of the morning to be admitted into the paterfamilias' presence.
