Figure Out the Myth

The figures in the painting are arranged in three units. The central nude figure being kissed hand and foot by children is one unit. In the lower left of the painting, on the ground, and apparently dead, is a single figure that constitutes a second unit. On the right a group of people form the third unit.

Here are some questions for you to answer. What is the connection among these groups? Specifically, explain the relationship between the dead figure and the central group. Why are the children kissing the hand and foot of the central figure? If you can address these issues you are on your way to identifying the myth. Work on this before going on.
